Tommy! Thank you for these pictures. Now I can see the screw has no relation to bearing. Was hard to tell in the other pictures. When I am able to get one of these it's good to know the screw is a tell tale sign of a early version. Many thanks! Sorry for the late reply here. :)

Thanks for those pictures of your NOS first-generation Swivo pedal! Beautiful! I really believe that JT just liked to design things to the Nth degree! Looking at the mechanical drawing, I can certainly see what Joe had in mind, but in reality, it was a non-issue. Tightening drum-key screw #76 is more than enough to prevent this lateral motion.
