Rogers Swivo BD Spring?

Gentlemen,

I will soon embark upon restoring my Rogers Swivomatic BD pedal.

After 4.5 decades of over-stretching the spring, it has long since refused to resume its original shape.

Does anybody know what size/tensile strength etc. I should be looking for?

Or where to find one?

Hi Kurt!

Rogers used a really specific spring design and it's next to impossible to find an exact aftermarket duplicate. I'm sure you're aware that one end of the spring comes with the bushing pre-installed. See the attached pictures.

Post a wanted ad in this forum, and maybe over at DFO, and there may be someone out there with an extra spring to spare.

I'm visiting family in the greater Minneapolis area and I hit a few drum shop today and found these in a rogers parts bin. Two differing sizes of the Swivo spring.

Does anybody know if this was a thing? Did Rogers have different Spring sizes for different models or eras?

Wow! You really lucked out! Good for you! The larger spring is for the Big R pedals and won't work for the Swivo. Hang onto it, as you never know when you, or someone else, might need it. Now, go restore your Swivo pedal!

I just got home and polished the newly purchased spring and cam. It's easy to see my original has "sprung". Over many years, the pedal probably lost it's original feel and I didn't notice until I bought a different pedal.

It's also interesting to see the fatter (Big R) spring next to the Swivo.

I've my share of those "stretched" Swivo springs and somehow they seem to keep going like that for decades! TommyP might have more info about this.

Looking at the original stretched spring and the Big R spring, they sure look like the same length now!
