WOW - looks great Mark !
BTW - I probably missed it someplace but has the Big R kit you restored for Catherine been put up for sale/sold yet - or maybe she decided to keep it for awhile ?
Thanks Doug
Brilliant, Mark. What was your method? Josh
yes … c'mon... what did u use?? Cheers John
Ok guys, here's how I did it! First, I tried the aluminum foil route, with water. Really didn't do too much for all that really deep rust. Again, I just wanted to dump it in the recycle bin! Next, I have a small container of "Capt. Lee's Rust Away". I used it years ago to remove rust from Slingerland lugs screws. I spread some on with a brush, but it really didn't do anything. Finally, and only with some luck, I took some 0000 steel wool and soaked it in the Rust Away. Guess what? It really worked! Still took a bit of "elbow grease" for the really deep rust, but did the job. Couldn't have been happier! Sadly, "Capt. Lee's Rust Away" is no longer available. I just received a container of "Evaporust" that everyone talks about. It's nowhere near as potent as Capt. Lee's!
So, there you have it. My "secret" to removing this deep rust! LoLoLoLo

Well good thing you didn't throw that away. Do you have a before picture? Because that thing looks like it's brand new, good job sir!
Hi Jeff!
I didn't take any "before" pictures of the entire stand, only the lower tripod section. The upper tube was rusted, but nowhere near as bad as the lower section. It cleaned up with the aluminum foil and water method. Up close, you can see spotting left over from rust, but from not far away, the stand looks great! The footboard and frame also cleaned up well with 0000 steel wool. I'm not at home to post pictures, but will by tomorrow.

Doug!
The Big R kit will be listed for sale. Honestly, though, I've just been lazy to get it listed. I'll probably post it here and over at DFO, for local pickup only, and see what happens. Might even try CL.

Thanks for your reply Mark. Sorry - I don't want to come off as pushy but was just interested in the thread and thought maybe I had missed a post somewhere.
BTW your restoration work is first class and I'm sure a labor of love - I can relate and appreciate that !

Hi Doug!
No, you're not being "pushy" at all! I greatly appreciate your interest in the thread, too! And, thanks for the kind words on my work!
