Can anybody tell me how close the new red onyx wrap the companies sell is a good match to the original ?? The new stuff
looks too red, compared to original wrap, which appears to be more maroon in color?? Thanks.

Could it be natural oxidation that has that old stuff looking darker?
Just had a drum rewrapped to match the old and they are very very close to me and on stage would never be noticed. Precision drum did a great job.
Believe some of the older wrap had a black backing and newer has white backing. This might account for the differences. Not a perfect match. Good for full shell replacement, but not so much for patching an existing shell.
I have samples for both red and blue onyx from Precision. Both have black backings and both look very close to the original.
Haven't seen a Rogers red onyx that looked more maroon than red.

Thanks amosguy.. The difference in the wrap backing could explain the light
and dark tones of the red. I like the darker red better. I've even seen
the brand that Rogers partnered with in the 60's with the darker red.
The first one below is refinished with the wrap from Precision. Also a close up photo of the new wrap. Not the greatest pictures, but I think you'll get the idea. One thing to watch for is blank spots in the new finish. If you are contemplating using the wrap, I suggest getting sheets rather than pre-cut, so you can try to work around that flaw. Third picture shows an example of the blank spot. Fourth picture is an original finish.
