95% of the vintage kits you'll see for sale on this and other websites are worth under $2,000.

Very affordable.

It is important to show the stamps on the cymbals. The cymbals alone could be worth more money than all the rapid quotes you've been given to date on this forum. IF the drums have no really bad hidden flaws, after cleaning them up and taking nice photos, I would have no problem selling a similar set in good condition with original parts for $850 + just the bass drum, ride tom , and floor tom. Having said that, Like the Ploughman stated, natural interior could command more money. Depending on what model the snare is (looks like a Powertone ) and if its complete and in good condition, another 275 + . The stands could also hold a little value depending on condition and model. Bass drum pedal another $75 + depending on what it is... If you decide to sell them , check Ebay for completed listing for the exact same set, wrap, sizes , and similar condition to get a better idea of market value. Asking on a vintage forum such is this one will help too, because there are some very knowledgeable Rogers aficionados who genuinely want to help, but you'll also get answers by interested buyers who obviously wish to get the best deal possible. Take your time and do your research, the numbers are all just ballpark with all the variables to consider. Good luck.

What are some great sounding modern day drum sets?

There are none that sound any better than (or as good as) the drums that you already have. If your cymbals are uncracked Avedis Zildjians or K Zildjians of similar age as the drums, you already have some very desireable cymbals. Are you wanting a new drum set for the kid? It's hard to convince a kid that some 50 year old American made drums and cymbals are better than some shiny new Chinese made drums and cymbals. If the drums are for him, let him spend several days reading posts on this forum about the wonders of mid 20th century Rogers drums and Zildjian cymbals.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

What are some great sounding modern day drum sets?

There are plenty of modern drums that sound great. Gretsch , Ludwig, Yamaha, DW...they all have top line stuff that sounds great.

Having said that, with the exception of one new set that I own , I use vintage drums exclusively as a professional in the studio and on tour. The new set I play has nothing unique or special about it. It sounds good, but nothing special.

IMO, Rogers drums sound fantastic. Depending on the era, they more or less crossover between vintage and modern. I own more Rogers sets than any other company. I love the sound and I know what to expect from them. If the bearing edges are in good shape, they are easy to tune, they record well, and hold up on tour.

Now if you told me that when I was a kid and in the market for a set, I would have said, thats wonderful, now where do you keep the Tamas.

For modern kits I dig Sonor but yeah a Rogers kit with good edges will do anything you need. Wide tuning range, heads fit easy, quality on par with modern drums.....your choice!

+1 on what leedybdp has already said.Assuming you do want to sell your vintage Rogers and get something new for your son there really is nothing out there that can match the sound quality of your Rogers. He would be the luckiest young man on the planet to have and play a set of these wonderful instruments.Your drums were built with the finest quality in mind and they sounded amazing right out of the factory. But with about 50 years for the wood to naturally age their tone will sound even that much better.I bought mine when i was seventeen and still have them to this day. Please give it some thought because once they`re gone, they`re gone forever...Good luck with your decision.
