Rogers Drums

I picked up two drums a 14x20" kick and 9x12" tom. Tags say Rogers Holidays kick badge says 5241, Holiday Cleveland, and the 12" is Holiday Cleveland 52659, after looking at post I believe the finish is black diamond pearl. I think its a 3 ply with with a reinforcement ring. From what i can gather the Holiday model is from 1957, I don't really know. Trying to find out if this information is correct. I want to find out if it would be worth trying to collect the rest of the kit or just sell the two peices that i do have. and for how much? The drums are in nice shape, the kick is missing one leg. and littel chrome peeling on the T rods on the kick. lugs all seem fine, believe they are the beaver tail lugs. the 12" is in nice shape. I would appreciate any information or advice anyone could give me on these pieces. I have attached pictures.

Holiday model went until about 1967-8 Cleveland I believe. Cleveland tag is from 63-67 with beavertail lugs but 4 digit serial number is from the late 50's, with Eagle badge? Bit of a mystery there. Unless the B&B lugs were replaced with beavertail?

Everything says mid 60's except that tag. Tom number says '66, which would fit with the rest of the information from looking at the bass drum?

If the wrap is in good shape, it might be worth trying to find the floor tom. Wrap name is correct. Wrap is popular, though finding a tom will take some patience.

Sweet pick up that will make beautiful kit when you track down that floor Tom.

The label that is shown was probably applied to its drum in 1966. The Cleveland labels that are crossed-out to use a differing model name and those that are typed-in are commonly from that transitional year when the Grossman Company sold the Rogers name to CBS Musical Instruments. Check some of the drum set offerings on the Jollity Drum Farm site (drumfarm.com), and you will see where an expert (Bobbby Chiasson) locates those drums mostly to that year. The other number in the 52XXX range is most likely from 1964/65. So those drum may have been together from the factory if the 52XXX drum was held-over inventory. Kindly upload pictures of the 9x13 tom for better ID.

Dan is of course correct, and those two drums are most likely going to be 5 ply, not 3 ply.

Yah, I think you guys nailed it. 1966 5-ply. Last of the Cleveland labels just before the transition to the Dayton labels.

Very nice drums! Note that there's no bass-mounted cymbal collet. Don't know the catalog name for that setup, but it was probably a 3-piece with no FT.

And Magoo, nice way to jump into the forum! Welcome!

Post some more pics of both drums. And it might be a good idea to post in the "Wanted to Buy" section of the forum. One of the members here might have a Black Diamond Pearl FT to match.

The outfit that had a bass drum without a cymbal mounting device was listed as the Louis Bellson Citation in the 1964 catalog, which would have covered the era of these drums. The earlier 1962 catalog incorporated that bass drum layout into the Playboy outfit. The later 67-68 catalog incorporated that bass drum into the Citadel outfit. I have sets that are from the Citation and Citadel eras. I like them because I generally prefer to use a cymbal stand rather than a bass drum mounted cymbal arm or rod.

I think it would be worth it to locate the matching floor tom, and may not be too hard to find.

Here is an era appropriate matching PowerTone snare drum for sale:

Note that the seller is open to offers.
