Rogers Bow-tie Cut-and-Thread Thread

Loading...

So the Duco center-lug Rogers kit I just picked up to restore has no reso hardware. The kick is a 22x14, needing ten 7 3/8" bow ties.

The parts kick drum from my previous project is a single tension Rogers Mercury 20x14, and used eight 14" bow ties.

Seems like it ought to work to cut these down to size, and thread them 12-24 to match, even though the originals have threads that are just slightly raised from the rod diameter.

Cutting and threading was easy, and the end result, even with a slightly lowered thread profile, fits all my 22's b&b lugs (save one for some reason) snugly. I couldn't pull the rod out from the lug when inserted, so this should work well.

Hey, I still need two more bow ties, if you can spare a couple. PM me please.

Regards

You've answered I question I have had now for some time - can hardened steel be re-threaded? Well yes, yes it can....unless the ones you have are brass or something. Anyway I tried threading old rods awhile ago and had no luck whatsoever. I think your process was a bit more legit. :)

Nice work!

I to had a problem with not enough club rods. I did have a couple of rods with the right handles, I found a couple of rods with no handles and cut the ends of both so the cut would land under the claw and be hidden, ground them down to a point and welded them together, a bit of filing and no one knows, except people reading this.

Under the claws, now THAT's a great idea.
