RK 14x7 solid maple snare getting mended.

Loading...

Well pretty sure it is the real deal being the re-rings are loose and it's out of round by an 1/8" :-)

I know my limits and those issues will be dealt with by professionals when coin can be spent. Spare change into the kitty for calfs as well. But figured clean the old trooper up and enjoy till then. Oddly this one managed to be ignored when the carnage was taking place with it's bro's and sisters. Best drum I own.

Nasty apply of crappy 70's "all in one stain/varnish". That's gone (almost).

The original lugs, two were cracked and they were all of the thin side casting ilk. Replaced with a great period correct set from a member here but regret do not recall who I got those from. Only thing I've done to the badge and interior is wipe with a damp micro-fiber towel. That won't change.

Oops, Looks like one should load posts last to first. No worries. Glad to hear any feedback of what could be done better. I stole the catalog image and failed to get where it came from. Sorry about that.

Just a few more. Last mention I can find to single flange bell clip snare is in the 1941 catalog. But this must have shipped >= 1949 < 1952. Correct? Anyone know when the last SF, bell clips shipped?

Thanks All!!

Fun point!

Converter I found shows $32.50 in 1941 would be $499.97 in 2012. Fair amount of money for a snare. Then and now. And no, not for sale at $500 :-). Do need to call my insurance guy. Any thoughts on replacement value?

Thanks!

Creighton, that is a nice looking snare! Dont ya just love it when someone plasters a drum with spray paint or varnish, worse yet, polyurethane.

That drum wil be amazing, if you live closer I would say bring over a 12 pack and lets finish it right!

Keep us posted on that beauty, man I love it!

Thank you!

I have two of those buggers now, one needs refinishing, like yours. Seeing your project is good motivation for me to get to work on it.

Nice job, man. Those snares are really rewarding projects when done. You're going to love that drum.

Can't wait to see it all done.

Thanks guys!,

JC If biz doesn't pick up and gas stays cheap, just may load the entire Slingy lot up in the Escape and head your way. VDF Kegger :-) No chit on the polyurethane. Foul stuff. I was working in the basement so used citrus for most of the strip. It couldn't get the swine red pigment out of the grain. Kleen Strip will, but nasty stuff.

John,

What badges are on yours? Single flange? Quite a bit of documentation for the Krupa's, double flange etc... Not finding much for the three point strainer with clips.

Thanks!

Hi Creighton.

Just wanted to thank you for the wicked cool Radio King stamps! Very nice!! It'll be nice to wipe away those Evans logos and replace them wth the RK logos!!

All the best and Merry Christmas!

Here ya go bud; photos of the badges and the drums. As you can see, they are both the small oval type that was only used in 1951.

If you learn anything more about them, please be sure to let me know. Maybe these were a student model??? With 8-lugs I doubt it. If they were 6-luggers, I'd say student model.
