Rewrap a rough kit or leave as-is?

Loading...

Hey gang, I just came into a 12/13/16/20 stop sign badge Gretsch that's in one of my favorite wraps, peacock satin flame. Kit is a little rougher than I expected but it sounds great. How much would rewrapping this in peacock flame, cut it's resale value?

85% its not original even poor original is worth more than a re wrap it too can be saved

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Is that just snare drum rash?

I'm sure I'm the minority, but gig wear, to me, is like a badge of honor.

It's just as cool as the way the top of a guitar wears.

Do you have any photos of the full kit? That's such a great color.

It's labor intensive, but I bet a big part of that schmutz could be wet-sanded out!

I wish it was schmutz, it looks and feels like a layer was rubbed off.

I'm in the process of setting it up, I'll add more pics later. I forgot how the Gretsches sound compared to a WFL or others

Ugh! That's a worst case scenario. Precision Drums used to offer a Peacock Satin Flame wrap that was -identical- to the original, but I think it's discontinued now. I would contact them and ask if there are any remnants around large enough to do the tom. If you're going to keep them and play them, they may as well look their best. As was mentioned earlier, leaving it as-is is fine too. Wear does have it's own mojo.

Drum Supply House and Jammin Sam both still list the peacock flame but under a different name. I got them on a whim and will probably play them out a few times a month. Edges look to have been redone, so I'll eventually rewrap.
