Restoring Mod Orange Set

Loading...

I have a Ludwig Mod Orange set. It appears someone painted (black) the interior at some point. To the best of my knowledge, the originals were not.

1) Can someone help verify that no coating would have existed.

2) Any tips on removing.

Regards

Mod Orange most likely from the very early 70s, meaning probably a natural interior.

+1 with the fact that they are most likely clear maple interiors. Knowing Ludwig, there may also be the SLIGHTEST chance that old inventory of white Resocoat shells were used. You never know!

THanks for the feedback thus far. FYI, I believe I may have vintage 1967 series based upon the serial number. The current coating is black and appears to be heavy not light. I'm going to remove. Was curious if I should finish with anything (oils, etc).

Thanks Again

might wanna pm forum member wflkurt. he has a lot of info on the first documented mod oranges. he would know which interior shell treatments they had. if yours are black with just would underneath, then they were most likely clear maple interiors that someone painted black. why someone would do that I could never imagine..

I've seen a couple of mod orange keystone badge kits that were white resocoated.

John Densmores mod orange kit has a white resocoated interior.

As mentioned you should be able to snoop around and tell if there is white paint under there. If not, it was probably clear.

Thanks for your help. It appears white white may have been there previously. I still may just leave them without. However, curious of i still provide some sort of oil or just leave naked.

Thanks Again

Forgot about that! Here's a Youtube video of the Doors, performing "Touch Me". At about 56 seconds, you can clearly see the white Resocoat interior.

Found another video of the Doors on Ed Sullivan, performing "Light My Fire" and John has no front bass head, also clearly showing the Resocoat.

Drum4fun, thanks cool video.

I'll look into the white res coat.

Interesting from the video the dampers were set up on the bottom head. I'm an idiot and always try making them work with NO luck.

Also I could never get the cymbal mount on the bass to work as well. Fell over many time in gig until I gave it up.

thanks for the fun and the memories.

I'll post pic's once I get her back up an running.

THANKS!
