Restoring 66' Ludwig Club Dates

Loading...

My son and my grandson will be driving in from NYC this Sunday for Father's day. I'm going to use the opportunity to present my grandson with the clubbie kit when they come over. I'm just waiting on a bass drum head to arrive (Weds.) and the bass drum will finished.

I still need (6) 2 1/2" (measured from the collar down to the tip) nickel tension rods for the rack tom and (6) 4 1/2" (measured from the collar down to the tip) tension rods for the floor tom. I had them... now I can't find them anywhere in the house. My wife has started to blame poltergeists for the missing T-rods. lol

If anybody has some, pm me. I need them immediately, I only have until Sunday. I'd hate to use chrome rods on only one side of each drum, it'll look crappy.

I had the Mickster (VDF member, MickM) over today and drumming was at the top of the agenda. I had a really great time, I think Mick did too.

PM me if you have some of the tension rods I'm looking for. Photos of finished kit shortly.

Glenn - Hopefully I'll have the rods in-hand in time for father's day. I'll post up some shots late Sunday or Monday the latest. I can't wait to see this kid's face light up when he sees them.

Hope you enjoy a great father's day yourself. My best to you, Mrs. Glenn and those great boys of yours. You did good with them, Dad!

First, Happy Father's Day to all!

Today was the day! I turned the 66' Club Date kit over to its new owner, my grandson, James. One picture is worth a thousand words, look at the expession on James's face in photo #2. He freaked out when he saw the kit. He couldn't believe it was for him. His eyes lit up and he ran and sat down behind the kit and started playing immediately. Sounded damn good for a beginner too! Grandpa is going to be giving him weekly lessons via FaceTalk (Mac version of Skype) so I'll not only be able to visit with him once a week, I'll be the one teaching him how to play.

A dream come true for grandpa!

Here are a few shots of James with his new drums and one of the three of us, three generations of the Velez clan. The kit came out great. Everybody was happy and it was a wonderful day. One for the old memory banks!

Took awhile to get this done, but it was well worth the wait. A heart-felt thank you to all who helped me make this great dream come true.
