Came across a pretty cool way to remove paint from the interior screws of a drum. I scored a 64 Downbeat that had the interior of the Kick and 12" Tom re-painted white. Kind of a drag especially since they painted over all the screws and stuff inside. I decided I could live with the white paint even though it was not original.... but really wanted to try and get the white paint off the screws. I found a really cool method online that these Dunqeon's and Dragons guys used when they wanted to re-paint their metal characters.
Here's how it goes:
1. Took all the screws and threw them in a zip lock bag.
2. Filled the Zip Lock Bag with Oven Cleaner.
3. Waited 3 Hours.
4. Emptied screws into a strainer and rinsed with water.
5. Took a toothbrush and rubbed them all down and buffed quickly with a clean towel.
The white paint flew off and the integrity of the screw was still intact.
Not sure if someone else had posted the technique before but It worked like a charm for me so I thought I'd share. Here are some before and after pics...
