Removing leftover adhesives from cymbal?

Loading...

Hi all!

I have an old 22" Paiste ride wich I got when I bought my Ludwigs. The thing is that some previous owner have put silver tape on it and then later on removing the tape leaving the adhesive on the cymbal and now it's really dry and hard and I can't remove it...

Anyone here who know how to remove it? I've tried traditional cymbal cleaner, alcohol, label remover but none have worked.

The cymbal looks like this

Use Acetone or laquer thinner.

I just had the same problem. I put some olive oil on the tape and let it soak in for about a week or so. Then I took some carboard and used it like a scraper to remove the tape/residue. Then I washed off the cymbal with dish detergent and wayer, and a regular sponge. Lastly I used a hair dryer to dry the cymbal. It worked really well, but I might have to re-do the proccess one more time, because one or two spots are still a little sticky. For the most part this method worked excellent, though.
