Removing glue under wrap

Loading...

Hello,

What is the best way to remove the glue left behind on a shell after removing the wrap? I have a 5-ply Slingerland shell. The black wrap peeled of the shell with no effort. The glue is much more stubborn. The outer ply appears to be mahogany. Has anyone had success with getting the glue out of the grain to the point where you might stain the shell or is that out of the question? I could see a clear lacquer coat on this a

So but either way I need t. o get the glue off.

Thanks,

John

Well, there is about 100 ways to do that. Everyone has "their way". My way is spraying lacquer thinner and scraping off with a putty knife, then eventually getting down to rags and thinner. But dont get it too wet, you dont want the thinner to soak into the wood much. The first time around the glue will keep the thinner from soaking in but the more glue you remove the more it will want to soak in. Good luck, this is the part we all hate!

Thank you!
