Reasonably priced eyelets/grommets.

I have attempted sourcing eyelets/grommets from an industrial supplier and the minimum is absurd. An eyelet/grommet (what is it?) should not cost $5.99. I need maybe 2 dozen to complete two years worth of projects. 7/16" chrome or nickel regular ol' grommets.

teverson-sr,

Have you tried your local fabric store? VERY reasonable if you can find the right size!

Grommets for fabric use have a large diameter flange, not like drum grommets. I don't think it would look right. I have a feeling I'm just not looking in the right place for them.

A pitty for you you're not in Europe. Stdrums in Germany sells them for 50 eurocents a piece! Nicely nickelplated.

By the way, the grommets used for fabric can be used, or at least I did. I had ones that were some non-iron metal (maybe nickel?) so I just filed the surplus material off.

I stuck it on a rod and put the rod in a powerdrill. this way it stayed nicely round.

I've ordered some from detroitdrumexchange on ebay. They were about $3/per. Shipping was $3 for several of them. Here's a link to a listing on ebay. He has the 6-ply grommets too.

In the past I have used guitar tuner bushings (see pic below). They are threaded so they are very easy to use, and they fit the smaller 3/8" and 7/16" holes on vintage drums. The only threaded eyelets I have found are 1/2". I think Jammin' Sam has threaded 7/16" eyelets, but he will only sell them with wrap, he will NOT sell them individually (I tried).

The tuner bushings work great, but depending on the size of your vent hole, you may have to use an additional washer on the front to keep it from "falling through".

Here's a link to a Google search I did. The first one on the upper left is what you would need (and where I got the picture from). Looks like a set of 6 will run you less than $9.
