I've got a mid 70's slingerland kit in WMP that i'm going to re-wrap the same color because the kick has holes I need to fill from the old tom mount which I do not use. I have stripped a kit before, and stained it, but i've never re wrapped a kit before. I guess what I really would like to know is, 1)how should I go about glueing the new wrap on the shells? and 2)what is a good glue to use? I can easily get the wrap off, and sand down the shells no problem.
Re-wrap question!
Contact cement, It`s yellow and availible at hardware stores or Home Depot, ect. ect. !! They make paper back lick and stick type wrap but you want good results. There is a video on this site covering the process, poppy put it out and it`s in this section. It`s detailed and well done !!

Awesome! Thank you very much :)
3M makes a water based contact adhesive that works very well too. It has no fumes and it cleans up with water easily while still wet. I've been using is for several years now with good results.
Yep what he said.
3M 30NF NEUTRAL Contact Adhesive
Works Great.

The 3M is what i'm going with. Thats all i've heard about, so i'm sure it works nicely.
It is your choice to make, but I will say after several years water based adhesives crystalize and become brittle, that`s why the factory uses the petrolium based. Both are effected by UV rays.

You have personal experience with this regarding today's adhesive choices for wrapping drums?

Some of the drum wrap companys will not warranty the wrap if you use a petrolium based adhesive.

On some days I`ll go through 3 or 4 five gallon cans a day, both yellow and black. I`m familiar with the flattening agents and drying agents bonding agents and mixing and disposal precautions. All cleanning liquids, primer, and hardening additives.
The water based is just as harmful to you as the petrolium. When glueing to wood, it`s night and day with the water and petrolium based, the petrolium is sooooooo much better. (it don`t lift the grain) I would use the water based glueing non-pourous solids to solids. It is also much more temperature and humidity sensitive !!
I could go on and on but.......
PopsOldSkins...I believe legislation and regulations have alot to do with that State to State. (cover all their bases)
