"Partial" Cymbal Cleaning?

Loading...

I'm a big fan of patina on cymbals, but sometimes it can get a little too hardcore. Has anyone ever had success with a "partial" cleaning, or making a patina more "even?"

I use Simple Green to clean vintage cymbals. Leaves the patina, gets rid of the dirt, grime, crude, etc. that inhibits the real sound of the cymbal from being heard.

Yes Sir

Never play it the same way once.

I cleaned my overly nasty K Custom Dark hi hats with warm water and CLR on a Sponge.

It removed the nasty green areas but there is still plenty of tarnish on there.

Higher concentration of CLR or soaking in it would make them gleam like new.

Much easier than the typical cleaning methods and non abrasive which is very important. I found a used 80's K that looks as if it was sanded in a circular pattern across the grooves... Shame. Don't do that!
