Great info there in the beginning. I had 2 #400s. 1 w/ the old badge & ! w/ the olive badge and sold them off.

I now am kicking my arse around the house wishing I kept a 6,5" x 14" metal slingerland that came w/a Rogers kit (which were like TAMA Imperialstars,btw).

Was that Slingerland aluminum, wood, bell brass, nickel,,,,,lol

But.....I did find a beautiful 5" Pearl Sensitone like new for $40 in a pawn shop recently....is it titanium, alloy, or chrome molly, or pearlalloy?? lol

Yes, thanks for the sticky and the website. 5.) Can Supras with a serial number be chrome over brass? Answer: almost never. I've personally seen one Supraphonic from the late 1960's that had a serial number, and was chrome over brass. It had a B stamp over the muffler dial, and was the same spun / non-welded shell as the 70's COB drums. So it is so exceedingly rare that a serial numbered Supra is COB that if it doesn't have the B stamp, I assume it to be aluminum.

It makes sense that a serial number bearing Keystone version of one of those spun brass "B" stamp bearing drums would exist. After all, they (the clipped badge COB 5x14 supras of '69-'71ish) were drilled for Keystone badges. I think it's super cool you have seen one. I've been looking for one for a long time and haven't seen one yet.

BUT, I have just found a very rare rolled & welded COB Supra from the late 60s. It has a 6xxxxx serial, and it has a crimped snare bed. The crimps are a little lower on the shell and different than the crimps found on the Super Ludwigs as well as the first spun aluminum Supras with the crimp (those 2 differ slightly in shape).

My guess is that it may be a trial batch of a brass run that they did in the old fashion (of the Super Ludwig shell style), but then decided on a spun brass, acoustiperfect snare bedded shell (the ones with the B stamps and clipped B/O badges).

What's very strange about this drum is that it's not the same rolled & welded shell of the Super Ludwigs; it's not a leftover shell someone that had been sitting around the factory and then found and assembled, as it's a different animal than the '58-'62 Super Ludwig shell. There is no curl-over on the flanges as you see on the '58-'62 COB welded Super Ludwigs. In fact at first glance it looks almost exactly like the first run of spun aluminum supras that had the crimped beds (again the crimp in this one is a bit different), but it's a brass shell and has a welded seam. It's definitely the 'missing link'!

Excellent video Terry.

You posted weights in the comments on the video (on YouTube). I'd be interested to know how much hardware you took off before weighing. That would help anybody trying to replicate the weights.

Hi I'm pretty new on here. I just bought a Ludwig 5x14 BB snare drum. There is a stamp above the muffler that says BR, the nickel finish is very blotchy/worn looking and its a Monroe badge. Is this possibly a 1st run BB from the early 80's when they made the switch from Chicago to N.C?

I have a Ludwig BB 5x14 snare drum. Its a Monroe badge, tube brass lugs, nickel finish looks worn and spotty, has a tone control and a "BR" stamped above the control knob. Could this possibly be a late 70's shell that was used in the Monroe plant?
