"elton" cymbal mystery???? pls help

Loading...

I know nothing about cymbals or cymbal companies... but Avedis Zildjian was making some pretty decent cymbals just four hours up the road from Elton Musical Products.... so if I was Elton's products manager I would have sent a truck up there once a week to grab a load of blanks and stamp my name on them.... seems like a logical business arrangement to me.. :)

It makes sense geographically, but my guess is that even any of Zildjian's seconds would have cost more than what Elton was apprently willing to pay -- otherwise any old Elton pies would be known as worthy vintage plates to look for. That just isn't the case, obviously.

Jaye's probably right in that they might've just been some domestic spun brass cheapies that Elton cold-stamped themselves.

So the mystery continues....

I HOPE I HAVEN'T ARRIVED TO LATE AT THIS PARTY. I TOO HAVE AN "ELTON" CYMBAL. RECENTLY, I WAS GIFTED A VINTAGE SET OF "SONOR" DRUMS, A "ZILDJIAN K" CYMBAL AND AN "ELTON" CYMBAL. THEY ALL HAVE BEEN IN STORAGE FOR MANY YEARS. JUDGING BY THE AGE OF THE DRUMS, TEARDROP ADDITION EARLY 60's, AND THE ZILDJIAN K THE EARLY 50's, I'D SAY EARLY 50's. BUT THATS JUST A GUESS.

A FRIEND OF MINE IN EUROPE TURNED ME ON TO THIS SITE AWHILE AGO AND JUST NOW WHEN HE KNEW I WAS TRYING TO SOLVE THE "ELTON" MYSTERY! THANK YOU MAGNUS!

ANYWAY, I AM NOT A MUSICAN, (i wish), SO I HAVE BEEN ON QUITE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. I SOLD THE "ZILDJIAN K" YESTERDAY AT AUCTION ON eBay. IT WAS 15", 1020G., AND ACCORDING TO A LARGE MUSIC STORE HERE IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA...CALLED " CHAD SEXTON'S DRUM CITY, THE SOUND WAS WET AND CLEAN AND THE CYMBAL WAS FLEXIBLE AND THIN. IT WENT FOR $357.00.

I HAVE ALSO LISTED THE SONOR DRUMS ON eBay, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THEM OUT.

BACK TO THE "ELTON", I DO WANT TO SELL IT BUT IT'S BEEN HARD TO ESTABLISH THE VALUE. I GUESS THATS WHY THEY HAVE AUCTIONS.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS POST AS IT HAS HELPED ME KNOWING THERE ARE MORE "ELTONS" OUT THERE. I HAVE ATTACHED SOME PHOTOS JUST TO SHARE. I HOPE YOU'LL ENJOY THEM!

THANKS AGAIN,,,, HEATHER SORRY, I CAN'T SEEM TO ATTACH PHOTOS. I'LL TRY AGAIN LATER.

I have seen the oval logo "ELTON" on a variety of vintage music instruments. I currently have a fantastic pair of Elton brand black castanets. They possess a great flamenco sound and shape and size. It would be interesting to learn about the company history. Any info? They appear to be made out of a bakelite plastic material with a braided rope connecting each pair. Mucho gusto!

Quite honestly...maybe they DID.

HJK...you got a good price on that K. Zildjian...it was truly a famous, sought-after old cymbal...and at just over 1000g, it was still pretty usable by today's standards.

the drum set will do well too.

So...count your blessings. Be happy. flower

The Elton :(...is worth hardly anything...I have never seen one which was anywhere near a well-made, quality cymbal...so...I dunno $20-30 maybe....

I like Eltons. They are trashy and have a nice click instead of a bell. But then I just made a bass drum out of a pallet and some raw hide so go figure. Anybody have any Elton's, I am interested in buying. Thanks!
