I am in the process of restoring/recovering a set of MIT's marketed by Donn Carr Drum Studio in Peabody,Mass. The drums shells are typical late 70's early 80's thick luan. The hardware, however is why I bought the set. Battleship lugs which look to be real Pearl castings as opposed to knockoffs ,and real early Tama mounts, also not knockoff. The knockoff hardware from this period was very poorly cast and you'd always have stripped threads and broken lugs. What goes here? Did drum shops buy hardware and shells to make their own "house brand" sets? I know Al Drew's in Rhode Island did,as I restored and sold one 2 years ago,but I believe those were Keller shells and all the hardware was Pearl. The hardware on the Donn Carr set is mostly Pearl, with the Tama stuff being tom mounts and spurs.Any insights? This is not a stencil kit.

So here is the completed project. It does not have real Tama hardware. The hoops are not Pearl. This may be entirely MIT knockoff.I had to replace every lug attaching bolt as they were held on with two threads. Also the spur receiver bolts were too short.I'm into the $75 set for another $125 and what have I got...I have still never seen an MIT set with this hardware combination.AND I can't rotate the photo...
