I just found it odd that in 1980 they were still using those terms. I don't think this cymbal was NOS- the stamp was big and bold. I had a catalog from around that time and don't recall any of these models listed. Instead it was "Rock" and "Earth" ride- that type of thing.

How do you know that the cymbals that came with your drum set were new?

Sorry for the off-topic.At that age, Zilco cymbals were from 9" to 19" inch? I've thought they'd made 20" or 22" rides. In addition, those prices are lower than A. Zildjian(First stamp?). What does it mean?

They did. But exactly when I don't know for sure. Certainly some early ones in these sizes date back to at least the 1950's because I've had a few. Zilco Constantinoples were hand hammered. I had a 20" and a 22".

Here's the early price list from the 1955 Ludwig catalogue:

As you can see there's still no larger Zilco's, and in fact the sizes offered here are even more limited than they were in 1947. Even so, I believe that they made larger sizes by this time and probably earlier. Why they aren't priced here?.... I don't have a clue.

As to any descrepency beween the 1947 prices as compare to the 1930's, I'll have to do a check on that when I have access my main archive.

Drumaholic,

Thanks for the minute input!!

I appreciate it! :)

Well, Zilco's material and process might be rough compared with A. Zil as for the prices. I don't mean the sound quality. Just my guess.

Well, the man I bought them from said he had just purchased the cymbals a week before. Plus the ink stamps were dark and bold. I realize now that they could have been sitting around a store someplace for a long time.

That dance cymbal could have been sitting in the Zildjian vaults for 20 yeras too. I imagine that it could have been the case here seeing as how there wouldn't be almost any demand for a 16" ride. So maybe the music store got a deal on it because Zildjian wasn't to clear out some old inventory.

I agree with you. I ended up using it as a crash because of it's size and there was an 18" crash/ride(that I dubbed the Keith Moon cymbal)included with the set. Anyway, it worked well with the loud garage band I was in at the time.
