Question about Ludwig bass drum hoops

Loading...

I picked up another Ludwig bass drum. The hoops are 1-7/8". All my other Ludwigs have 1-5/8" hoops. Inlay matches the shell wrap and is half-inch like my other drums. Any ideas are appreciated. Gerald.

If I recall correctly, Ludwig hoops became wider in the late 70's through the 80's. These hoops also featured a bevel on the inner surface to give clearance for the head at the bearing edge.

Thanks for the info. The drum I'm questioning is a keystone badge so I assume it is a late 60's. The Slingerlands that I have all have 1 5/8" hoops also. I'm wondering what size are Gretsch and Rogers drums?

Hi guys!

I own a clubdate 20" blue oyster 1965

I'd like to buy 2 bass drum hoops to play everywhere my kit without concern

The original hoops are in "not so good conditio"

So i have 2 questions:

- can i buy 2 standard 20" hoops or do i need particular size?

- which material should i look for?

Best regards filo

I use Anderson International http://aitwood.com/default.asp

They offer 10 or 12 ply in Birch or maple - 1-1/2" or 1-3/4"

They'll mill them for the inlay, put a rounded edge on the front and

chamfer the rear edge if you want.

VERY competitive prices too.

Hope this helps.

1-3/4 is the standard ludwig size (isn't that what you have already?)

It could seam strange but i can't find similar hoops on the web

I measured and these are the results

Diameter external 52,8/53 cm

Thikness 8 mm

Width 4cm

Doesn't matter finish

The external edge is rounded

Could somebody link me some example on the web?

According to Jack Lawton,Ludwig hoops are 1 3/4' wide with a 9/16" groove inlay. He's pretty knowledgeable and my Ludwig sets are so equipped. Jim
