Question about 60s radio king

Loading...

I have a 60s radio king snare, wmp (faded to light green) niles badge serial no 5603, sorry Im not good enough with technology to post pics yet, it's a solid maple shell I think, does anyone know why the drum has 10 cob hoops, because I know they are all supposed to have 8, and also why although it has the 967 a three point strainer - but minus the radio king snare bridges. There are no extra holes and it is 5/12 by 14, and has newer 1955 lugs. I got it off eBay and it was described definitely an RK, I wish I still had the listing to see, it does look like a solid shell with the rings, I just had to have one and it sounds marvellous! I also got a 40s one but maybe more on that another time.

special order model a certain high level endorser for slingerland preferred his Radio kings without the snare bridges.

That would be buddy rich, I've heard that to, there won't be another one like him, I wonder why it was 10 lugs, I think this dampens the shell a bit. Never played one of this era or even 50s ones with standard 8 lugs. I have a 40s one with 8 though.

The earlier Hollywood Ace had the 3pt. strained without bridges and a standard butt.

I think that drum would have been sold as a Hollywood Ace.

Edit: The rapid strainer predates serial numbers, so a Hollywood Ace would have had the rapid.

Your drum is a mystery.
