hi

i own a beautiful premier snare drum but i can't find the exact model number.

I think it's a projector but i'm not sure. Dimensions are 14" X 6.5" 10 lugs birch shell with reinforcement rings. So if you can give some help i'd be pleased !

Unless the models were different in the US, if it is a @ 1990 model 2032 it will have had die-cast so-called "Stress-ring hoops" from the factory.

Earlier, as can be seen in the 78-79 catalogue, they made a drum like yours, but only in 14x5½" - called the 33. That one had the pressed hoops as yours.

Catalogues can be found here:

hi

thanks for your help !

Actually, i've watched all the premier's catalogues i found and i didn't find my snare drum. She looks like a 2000 serie but without the die-cast rings. Premier did 14" X 8" snare drums with 10 lugs that looks allmost the same but with different lugs ( mines are pointy lugs ! ) and 6.5"

So i am lost !

Could it be a one of a kind snare drum or a pre-serial ? I've watched it very carefully and it all looks like factory made, no custom.

No, I couldn´t really find it either. But Premier being Premier, and working the way they did, of course they at some time must have made drums like yours. Not everything they build went into the catalogue. They didn´t mind mixing shells from this with parts form that and selling it as these.

I will see it as deeper 33 as in the 78-79 catalogue.

Most 2000-series drums had the parallel strainer - but not the 2032 and 2035. Only, they had the cast stress-ring hoops. One possible explanation is that the chrome of the stress-ring hoops flaked badly, which could be the reason for yours having got pressed hoops.

Or maybe having been delivered that way.

The plinthed badge shows it age to be from around 1990 - not much earlier.

ok thanks jon,

so it can be either a 2032 with replaced rings or a rarity from a 33 with a deeper shell.

Hello all,

Answering an old thread, hoping to solve the mystery for you

Your drum is a 2032 snare drum. With the reinforced bearing edge

It was a standard snare drum that came with the resonator and projector series drumsets and available in either colour. Yours is the SX or Sapphire as it is called

Probably around 1990 when these were introduced as their answer to the 2002 snare drum which, in fact, is the same snare drum but that one had the parallel (flobeam) snare strainer and these were out of production around 1990

Unfortunately it has not the original hoops but Premier wasn't too careful on putting on the right hoops. Even in their own catalogs there are different hoops on some drums. Or maybe the stress-ring hoops were pitted wich might be obvious looking at the rusty rivet of the badge.

It's not a 33 model because of the colour of the shell and the premier badge which was used from around 1987-1988.

Neither is it a 2087 Cabria snare drum, in fact it looks exactly like it, but these only came out early 1998 and the badge is not the right one. Also the Cabria snare drums didn't have reinforced shells.

Nice snare drum anyway.

Hello Roger1988Premier! It appears that you are a new VDF member. Welcome to the forum! I just noticed that all the topics you have replied to are, in some cases, years old! It would appear that many of these members are no longer with us and will never see your responses. The good news is that many of us appreciate your time and effort with your knowledge of Premier and hope that it will help anyone that may have the same questions. Thanks again!
