Premier 1966 kit

Loading...

I have premier shell pack from 1965 - 1966 in gold sparkle plus the original hardware and trying to decide a fair price to let it go for. Condition is good but the wrap looks to have 'faded' and lost it's splendour - I presume it's all original and no damage. Checking the shells they look very good and clean / intact internally. Beech rings and what looks to maple / birch interior ? Hardware looks good too. Has some Everplay skins on too.

Same drums as these minus the snare.

12 16 22.

Any idea's of an approximate value?

Thanks !

I may be way off base here, but I believe we would need to see the actual drums you are selling to make an educated guess of the value.

Seems like vintage Premiere "players" are landing in the 600 to 800 range. That based on a quick eBay scan. Maybe 400-700 with no snare...

Not a Guru... just interested..

I'm going to go for a start price of $500 AUD. Seems fair ? Plus the hardware original olympic bass pedal. Premier hi hat and 3 cymbal stands which look to be from something else but same era..

The sparkle wrap that European drum manufacturers used in the 50's and 60's aged poorly. Even well maintained drums from top manufacturers such as Premier develop a sand papery texture as well as a tendency for fading. This is a big negative when it comes to resale.

Hmm Thanks Leedybdp.

Yes I am thinking they could go to someone who could re wrap if this wrap separates OK.

I am wondering whether to strip them down and use the shells and go on a project. The interior is very clean, bearing edges good as. I can see them in a nice natural gloss finish :)

or

I will probably put them on anyway and see if anyone bites.

I believe they are Beech RR and 3 ply birch shell interior certainly looks Birch.

People who know my drum preferences know what I have said many times on this forum about "natural" finishes for previously wrapped drum shells. Generally speaking, the outer plies of wrapped shells are not presentation grade wood. Stripping the wrap from drum shells, sanding the shells, then applying a clear or tinted clear finish to the bare wood will ALWAYS look like a stripped, sanded, and lacquered home-made drum finish.Stripping and sanding the shells, then having them painted, can produce a more professionally applied finish.
