Powder Coating?

Loading...

I have a pair of aluminum die cast rims which are suitable for both eight and ten hole fourteen inch drums. I started a post concerning these mystery rims several weeks ago. About a week ago, I took them to a powder coating gentleman in my town. He confirmed that they were aluminum and were very cool. He thought that perhaps they were custom made. He said that whoever made these was "very clever". The cheap brass paint looked terrible however. He is going to glass bead them and powder coat them a bright red. I also gave the gentleman a few other parts to coat in the matching colour. They won't go on a vintage drum, but I'm thinking of a nineties Taiwan made Ludwig which I really like. A six and a half incher. My question is has anyone had experience with powder coating? Durable? Suitable for cross sticking? Etc. Etc. Thanks!

I've never seen a piece of painted aluminum that didn't have chips on it. I don't think any kind of paint will hold up to a beating like cross sticking. It's going to chip.

Aluminum is better suited by anodizing.

I would send them to Trick drums, their drums are aluminum and specialize in colors
