Powder Coating on 1980s Acrolites

Loading...

I have a question on the 1980s era Ludwig Acrolites. As I'm sure you know these were the rounded corner blue/olive badge days and they started using a powder-coating on the shells. The coating came in basically two flavors: a metallic silver-gray hammered-look finish and a kind of bland medium gray finish.

I like the hammered look, but the plain gray tends to look splotchy over the years.

Do you folks have any suggestion on a product that can be used to polish the surface and put a little luster back in it?

I don't want to get into re-painting it.

Thanks!

In my experience, products that work well on automobile finishes also work well on instrument finishes, unless of course the instrument is a fine old shellac'd stringed instrument.

A bit of fine polish, try an inconspicuous area?

If the splotches are on the surface, the chances are better that you'll be able to improve things, less so if they go through the coating itself.
