Postage Due ! (Dimensional Weight Nightmare)

Loading...

Has this ever happened to you?

You pay over a hundred bucks to ship a bass drum you won on Ebay, but when it arrives, you are told you have to pay 90 bucks as a "Dimensional Weight " charge.

So , my vintage drum being held hostage in this alternative dimension I was forced to shell out 90 on the spot to take delivery.

I have filed a complaint with the seller, but not sure what they will do, and not sure if this qualifies for any help back from Ebay, but will keep ya posted ..

Wow. Slingerlad

Never heard of that one. Usually with USPS, UPS and FedEx all prices are done when shipped. Sounds like the local dispatcher tried to hose you. I would look for relief from the delivery company itself along with eBay. Thanks for the info. Let us know how it works out. That really stinks.

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Dimensional Weight charges have been around for a while. Maybe the criteria have changed, but if your shipper runs into that charge, you can then put more weight in the package for same charge.

Sounds like a home printed shipping label maybe, corrected by the carrier at your end? Check what information the original price was based upon, and what caused the upcharge on delivery. The shipping company should be able to explain both setups.

In general, I have taken my packages directly to the depot and the price has been final. Not sure if that is the case if you set them up with a label and have them pick them up at your house. However, some places are very strict with the dimensions and others seem less so. One aspect may be they are watched by the union drivers because of potential injury from handling over-sized packages. If they have to use dollies and so forth, it takes more time and therefore they want the up-charge.

Like a lot of things, it used to be more simple. Customer service was once a big thing. Now it is all down to a mechanical process.
