Post your "Before and After" shots

A few months ago, I bought JamminSams 60’s Black Oyster Pearl to rewrap three Ludwig orphans which I had sitting in the basement collecting dust (solid black FT, 1959 20" bass painted black, and a bare 8x12). After a few weeks of plugging holes, sanding the shells, and collecting some needed hardware (including the rail conselette), I finally got them rewrapped and reassembled this weekend.

Now I know that side by side, this repro OBP can't match up to the original wrap, but it's pretty darn close if you have nothing to compare it to. There's still a few "correct" hardware pieces needed, but it's playable and good enough for a buddy who wanted this for his Beatles cover band.

Looking at the "Before and After" shots I took, I started thinking about all the beautiful gallery shots members post here of their finished restorations, but seldom do we get to see what each kit looked like before all the work was done. So here's mine:

What type of veneer is on those Rogers?

They look fantastic....

That JC does such good work.

Nice work on the OBP orphan kit! I believe that orphans should be played.

I also agree with the others...Jeff's work is the best! He gave me some advice when I worked on these 1950's WFL orphans (26/16/13). I converted the bass drum from single tension to double lug and converted the center lug rack tom to double lug. I then wrapped them in mahogany veneer, stained them and sealed them with a matte finish. Sold them locally without even trying.

Boy, those two veneer kits make perfect "Before and After" shots. I wish I had the wood finishing skills to work with veneer and have it come out looking that great. Maybe I'll experiment with a lone MIJ shell some day.

I'll add another "B&A" shot of some Rogers orphans I rewrapped a few years ago in WMP....

This is my '41 Ludwig & Ludwig snare drum that was in need of a clean up. With the help of my trusty sidekick (my 8 year old daughter), we disassembled the drum and polished it all up.
