Please help identify vintage Premier

Hello!

I've recently bought a stunning Premier kit and was wondering what year it might be... Bass Drum is 20" x 14", Floor Tom - 14" x 14" and Rack Tom - 11 7/8" x 8". I've checked old catalogues and because it has disappearing tom holder and no Bass drum cymbal holder it seems like 1963 Premier "58". Is that so? It's a 3-ply shell. I wonder what they are: Birch, Mahogany? I had to reinforce the Bass drum Tom Holder mount with a metal plate because it'd been torn out. I hope I didn't ruin it.

I would be grateful for any info regarding this kit.

Thanks!

The resolution of the photo is too low to be sure, but it looks to me like the lugs on the floor tom are the pointy type which means later than 1963, more like late 60’s. Hard to tell from the photo though.

Those will sound amazing - I have the same sizes in wmp, but mine is earlier. Congrats on a fantastic jazzy kit.

Sweets, thank you! I'll continue looking through old pictures, catalogues paying attention to the lugs of the floor tom. Thanks again!

Possibly late 60's/ early 70's. The inside of the shells will easily tell the wood type. The 11 7/8" rack tom is definitely Birch though.

Thanks for the info!

I heard about 1968 being the last year of 11 7/8" (pre-international) size. Well, if put everything together..: pointy floor tom lugs and the shape of legs, disappearing tom-tom holder and no cymbal holder on the bass drum, it can be 1966-1968 Birch Premier (model ?) Blue Pearl.

Thank you!

That’s a late 60’s, early 70’s kit. The floor has 8 lugs, size is international. The rack tom has the beer barel style hoops, it is metric, bass drum is standard. From the picture which is not very clear seems like the bass drum tom mount was modified. The shells can be all birch or all mahagony or mixed, really hard/impossible to tell by the look of the drum set for this specific build since There was a transition between birch and mahagony for several years, they used left over birch shells with some 70’s sets as well. All early 60’s kits are birch. My kit is from ‘75 but has a birch floor tom.

This is a beautiful sounding and looking kit, I am looking for the exact same kit in black diamond pearl.
