Please help identify this snare!!

Loading...

So I bought this snare on ebay for $60 ( a steal in my opinion) The guy said he bought it from an estate sale and the daughter sayed that her father played it in high school. It also sayed that it is a 1940 Ludwig. Is this correct? The closest I've found was the 1953 Leedy National. But it has a Ludwig drum key attached. Please help me identify this!

The pictures are somewhat small, so it's difficult to tell. I've seen that style of hoop clip on many vintage marching snares. Likely they were made by the same company and several drum-makers used them. The vent hole grommet would not typically be black and looks too shiny to be original. Strainer looks like Slingerland to me. Nice complete drum for the price.

The grommet is original. It's made from Bakelite (predecessor to plastic).

It's difficult to say who made the drum. It very likely could have been made by one of the bigger manufacturers, but not badged and then sold to a distributor like Sears and Roebuck or someplace like that.

$60.00 is about what these single tension student marching drums sell for. Your drum looks nice.
