Picking These Up This Week: Ludwig Standards

Loading...

Suddenly, Ludwig drums seem to be falling into my lap for some reason. These are Ludwig Standards, rewrapped in burgundy oyster. The snare is a killer. The whole set sounds great with coasted Ambassadors and an Evans EMAD on the BD.

Thanks. It's technically Bum Wrap Pink Oyster #2, but it's obviously not pink at all, and neither is their other Pink Oyster. They should just call it what it is: Burgundy Oyster.

I'm buying them from an acquaintance locally who picks up abused and orphan drums, restores them as a hobby and then sells them for what he has into them. He does beautiful work and doesn't charge a fortune for the drums, plus he's the nicest guy in the world. It's a win-win for both of us. I'm going to put in an order for a 60's MIJ set in 13/16/22 in green sparkle and he'll probably be able to fill that order at some point.

Bob...That looks like a nice little drum set. You know about my aversion to Ludwig drums. When I was in full drum collecting mode, I usually had a Ludwig drum set (purchased cheaply) for trade bait. The only Ludwigs I ever liked included a set of Standards in Red Strata and a Blackro snare drum. When I downsized the collection, all of the Ludwigs were among the first to go away.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Howie, you know how I felt also...until I started playing vintage Ludwigs. Now, I have more Ludwig sets than anything else. I didn't plan it!
