Regarding the CAST batter hoop on SC's PEARL B4514 ... I gently disagree with funkypoodle, as the PEARL "Superhoop" wasn't even available back during this time period .. and .. SC was NOT a PEARL endorser either. That said, I always thought his batter hoop was a Gretsch CAST hoop, which was without a doubt, THE cast hoop that most everyone used back then. The profile of SC's batter hoop seems to back that up if you compare them, especially so where the tension rods are attached. I had mine set up with a Gretsch CAST hoop back in the day .. 1980/1984 .. but for the record, PEARL did have cast hoops available too, just not the "Superhoop". Still, would have been much easier to source a Gretsch CAST hoop back then rather then the PEARL. Course, this is all conjecture!, but fun to do regardless. Whatever CAST hoop you end up with with do the job DrumJustin!, but I do believe it was a Gretsch CAST hoop on SC's B4514. As to what year was his drum? ... that's a tough one to dial in .. because .. Stewart Copeland has said in many interviews that he honestly doesn't remember just where or when he got that drum! It was given to him somewhere along the line .. so .. I have tracked this snare drum as far back as the early 70's for availability from PEARL. The drum shows up around 1975 in a PEARL catalog .. but the D4514 was available as far back as 1972! Course that one is the STEEL SHELL, but otherwise, same hardware. So ... this model was available anywhere from 1975 to 1983! Here's a pic of mine with the Gretsch CAST hoop! :)
