Paying It Forward, MME Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Today some vintage drum hardware arrived which was sent to me by fellow-member, MME. The remarkable part is though, that Matt refused a cent for these parts. He wouldn't even consider my paying for shipping. Matt lives in California. I'm up here in Canada. Vati (Matt) was quite adamant. Basically, he told me that if I had a need for these parts, they were mine! What an unselfish gesture on this gentleman's part.

I know that Purdie has also done this. I have myself. I know there are countless others out there as well.

I have six pre-1968 Pearl lugs. They are the springless variety. Screws and washers are all there. They will clean up beautifully. I don't even own a Pearl drum. I really don't need these pieces. I can't even remember how I obtained them. If anyone is in need of these pieces, they are yours. Just contact me. They will be sent to you for no cost. My pleasure.

Again, thanks MME! I really appreciate your act of kindness to a complete stranger.

Brian

Jim - With the exception of a very few notable 'clinkers' your statement is correct. Just make sure that you -know- who you are dealing with before sending your hard earned money out on a journey. There -are- many really great guys on this forum like Salty, (Brian,) and I'm proud to call some of them my friends. Just remember what whoever raised you told you while you were growing up... pick your friends with care and good judgement.

Caveat Emptor! (Buyer Beware!)

Too many great drums to list here!

I really enjoy hearing things like this happen~! Good stuff.

On a couple of the car based forums I'm on there's been "Pay It Forward" threads started. Where any member has something they are willing to give away free it gets posted in the thread. Shipping charges (if they apply) are worked out between the members via PM/email. All that's asked is whoever asks for a item really needs it and will use it. And it's not being sold elsewhere for profit. So the honor system is in place there. If you have nothing to give back and need something that's posted it's cool. If you have something to give away and don't need anything it's cool. Mutual respect is expected. While this is a vintage drum forum most things should be percussion related but can be it open to other instruments, lesson books, CD's, records, posters etc..... you get the drift. It can be made a sticky at the top of one of the forum sections to. Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts??

I think it's a good idea.

The problem is, I have very little in the way of vintage stuff!

All I can offer is a look around at the local places if you guys are looking for something, and do the deal to get it for you if you need it.

Other than that, I'm not really much use...

That's actually a big help. Having members in key spots around the world to eye stuff for others would be great. And the gear does not always have to be vintage to give away. It can even be old used sticks or heads. You never know who it's going to help. It's really up to David and Tommy if it's ok to do.
