Pawn Stars

Anyone happen to catch the new episode of Pawn Stars last night? I love watching this show, and I've been waiting for them to have a drum kit show up at the store since it started. Well last night they went and looked at a 60s Slingy kit. It looked like a nice kit, but I'm pretty sure it was a re-wrap, like a green abalone, of course the pawn guys had no clue what they were looking at. From the looks of it I'd guess it was a 14x20, 8x12, 14x14, and 16x16 with a sound king snare, hardware and cymbals which they didn't get into. A pretty desireable config sans the re-wrap and looked in pretty nice shape.

The guy wanted $750 for it, and Ricks response, drum roll please... "The problem is, its a jazz set, and they just don't sell. Every kid wants to be a rocker these days and since you don't have the extra tom its just going to be a really hard sale." DOH Anyways, he offered him $500 and the guy decided to keep it, only after Chumlee bashed the hell out of them like a jack ass. Pretty amusing episode.

It always hurts my ears to hear people on television talk about something I happen to know and they don't...

Dang, I missed it!! I always hoped they'd bring in some crazy 20's Ludwig or Radio King or something.

"That's a Jazz set. Nobody wants a Jazz set". Classic ignorance. Rick may know a lot about many things, but he showed us he knows jack about drums (or, he was being a sneaky buyer). Glad that dude didn't sell to them.

Anyway, how true was the owner's appraisel of $750 for that kit?

Yea I thought $750 sounded like a pretty fair market value for what he was offering. Really though Ricks offer wasn't far off of what I would expect from a pawn shop, they are out to make money ya know. But that jazz set comment was just too hilarious, you would think 30 years in the pawn business, you should know a thing or 2 about ALL vintage musical instruments, maybe he was being sneaky?

I saw that episode of American Pickers too, that guy had an incredible collection. I wish they had shown more of the drums, but I could make out atleast 2 vintage kits setup and several others stacked on shelves. The church he converted into his jam room was really Cool1.
