Paiste 2002 black label, vintage?

Loading...

Hey guys I got this really sweet Paiste 2002 black label 16" thin crash from ebay, it had a nasty crack and then another really small one. I welded the cracks and I think it sounds really good. But are all the black label 2002's vintage?

...and sounds good to me. Question is, how long will it last? Then if the crack re-emerges.....shoot - just cut it out then and I bet it will still sound good enough to use.

If I would have cut the crack out it would have ended up an 8" splash lol, although as thin as this cymbal is, it would make a great spalsh, but it makes a better crash.

If the owner is playing jazz or something really light, this will last a very long time, but due the thin nature of it, playing heavier styles would probably break it again. I never welded a cymbal this thin, seriously this girl is skinny!

Glad you approve of the sound, honestly I am....

Now I have not seen this cymbal in person, and I am no expert, but perhaps this will be an accurate reminder.

It is my understanding that thicker cymbals are more prone to cracking and then therefore thin ones are less prone to cracking because they flex so much easier. If my understanding is true, then perhaps this cymbal will last much longer and/or be able to withstand heavier playing.....so long as you don't strike the cymbal on the repair.

Maybe you are safe to play away whatever style or dynamic you wish......that's what I would do.

Score on this cymbal for you though - so long as the price was right.

Yeah I only paid 26 delivered for this yeah a big score lol. Although thinner cymbals flex more and respond quicker, they have less mass and thus less volume ultimately, so to get the amount of volume for the metal I play, I would have to hit this cymbal way harder than it should have ever been played.

I can beat my welds with a hammer bro, proper playing on the repair will be just fine...
