I have,I thank is a Imperial star deluxe red sparkle snare (1972) Did tama paint the inside of the imperial snare grey or some or all snares inside.
paint inside
I believe they painted the interiors of the swingsstar and the royalstar spickled grey. The superstar and imperialstar had clear lackered interiors.
I do have some photos but the grey is not sparkle.
I've seen such paint also in late Star drums (the predecessor of Tama).
Guess it was just to imitate Gretsch and others, without a sound
effect. Perhaps also to protect the inside of the shells? I don't know.
Nothing to worry about and to my opinion original - and not been done afterwards.

NB: or is this still a STAR snare drum? What type of badge is outside?
has no badge,Like to know what it is can somebody ID this snare.and maybe the year.
Most likely a common STAR wood snare drum, produced between 1966-69.
Not earlier - not later, due to the type of the snare strainer.
Ralf
So it is a star! Thanks Ralf.
