I have a somewhat ambiguous question concerning the wrap on a set of 66 Ludwigs that I have. I had someone question the originality of the wrap due to the fact that they have no fade and look so good. Based on my research and all of you helpful people here, I showed him how the wrap was tucked in between the plies of the shells as it should be and that the grommets have not been tampered with. Has anyone here ever seen a re-wrapped kit that had the wrap tucked in and perfect looking grommets? The guy was going to buy them but he backed out because of this. Any advice? Thanks a lot!

I can't imagine any way that a rewrap could be laminated into the plys of the shell as it was by the factory without obvious damage to the last ply and the bearing egdes. If the wrap is a couple of inches under the final ply and the grommets have the appropriately patina, have nice even rolled ends and are snug enough to very slightly ident in the wood on the inside I would say the wrap is original. Your prosective buyer is upset because the drums look too good!....he's just trying to raise doubts in your mind to get you to drop the price.

I agree. It would be difficult to really do the job well enough to fool anyone who knew what they were looking for.
I also have all-original drum sets from around that time that look absolutely new. Sometimes, people DID take care of their stuff!

It does happen. Some drums are no-fade beauties ... thankfully. It's better the pickle didn't buy them. Sell them to someone who would truly appreciate them.
