One Down One to Go

So I decided to re-wrap my Slingerland red satin flame 14 and 20 to match my sky blue pearl tom I bought off Reverb. My original plan was to buy a 12 and re-wrap it in red satin flame to match the other two. But, when the sbp tom arrived, it was just too darn nice to remove the wrap, so since the red satin flame kick was in such bad shape I decided to go the other way. It cost a bit more, but sbp is so much cooler. I soaked all the hardware overnight in Wd-40, then I used dish soap with warm water and cleaned the hardware with an old toothbrush. Here's the 14x14. I'll have the whole kit up after doing the kick. I'm using wrap from JS with the tape method, I got the wrap on tight and it sounds as good as it did before the re-wrap.

Now, off to the kick.

Thanks grantro, the 12 has a slight fade, so they don't match perfectly. I may try to bring out the blue more, but only if I can find a safe way of doing it.

The 14X14 looks GREAT Mark! .. and .. I meant to reply to your other question about the 8X12 and being able to lighten it a little: I would be a bit wary of the lacquer thinner method as you do need to "cut through" the protective clear outer layer before any lightening starts to happen. Small issue with that is, unlike going for a full WMP lighten, how does one then control the amount??!! It is a bit of a conundrum!

Beautiful, Mark! A product that I really like for removing any rust and grunge from hardware is "Evaporust". I'm not sure where you're from my friend . Maybe it's only available in Canada. It certainly works well though. Again, a fantastic job, sir!

Evaporust is sold here, I bought it at a hardware store and it works good.

To me you made the right decision, simply because Im not a fan of red satin flame. Looking forward to the finished kit!

Thank you!

Here's a few pictures of the kit. As you can see, with the flash on the camera, it really brings out the blue on the floor and kick, but sitting here in our living room, you can't tell much difference between the three drums. I'll probably leave the 12 alone for now, I just need to pick up a coated Ambassador for the resonant side of kick.
