I have searched high and low for a clip or copy of a jazz program that was shown in the mid to late 1990s on a PBS type channel in Chicago. I want to think it was a mostly no-name batch of performers though a couple were very good and it took place somewhere in the north western US, like maybe Washington or Seattle or thereabouts. Maybe Canada even? IDK but there were two combo's that used the same drummer. He was an older gent that reminded me of the Santa Clause in "Miracle on 34 St." with John Payne and Maureen Ohara. Anyhow, the old guy, white beard and hair and all played a Gretsch bop kit in black nitron with K zildjian cymbals and he was really good! Had a fantastic drumkit sound, one of the best I've heard and the guy was very smooth and had chops to burn. He did a daylight outdoors show with a female singer and then there was a clubhouse joint they played at night with a featured piano player. Plenty of closeups on the drums and the old drummer but, I long ago lost my VHS copy and I'll be danged if I can remember the show, the venue nor the drummer but SOMEBODY has to know who the guy was. My guess is the guy is either no longer with us or in his late 80s by now. But the Gretsch bug, already going strong from my exposure to Bill Stewart, Philly Joe, Art, Max, Elvin and Mel really set in after I saw this show with the old guy. It was a turnaround event for me where I knew I wanted to have that same kit or close and I also wanted to get a bit more serious about learning to play half as good! Any help in finding out more about this show or that drummer if anyone remembers would be much appreciated!!Bowing
