Here is an example of one of the kits in white.

I too would not care much for new drums with artificial road wear or patina.

But I do like those vintage kits, that are well used and/or have undergone a bonehead mod or two. those that have sort of slipped into the player grade category still have value to me

I like to initially make them as clean and complete as possible, and then enjoy them as they are with no worries as Bun mentioned.

Certainly I love a nice clean mint shape kit

but with that, is top dollar you pay for "mint" and all the worry to have them stay that way.

But heck no on the newly made to look distressed thing

Well, I didn’t want to be the one to say it. ;)

I guess I may be underestimating the size of that market...

There must be at least ten times as many guitar players as there are drummers who buy musical gear. There are herd mentality divisions for guitar people and for drum people. The guitar people who like the distressed instrument look are plentiful. This type of preference among drummers is not very wide spread. The closest we seem to see here on the various forums are the people who want to take old marchers, and cobble together a Levon Helm set or a Fred Young (KY Headhunters) set. Or, the non matching component drum set people usually want their drum set components to not be shabby looking.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Hipster imbeciles are people too, and if they are drummers, that makes me like them more than the garden variety Hipster. They just need to be reformed...we need to set up a 12 step program.

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.
