OH NO It happened! RK Lug fail! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Well I put a lovely new Remo Skyntone Head on my 50's RK Snare this evening. It tuned up lovely. Sound absolutely awesome. I never tried a ST head on that snare before and was like magic.

So I re-head the rest of my RK's with Fyberskins. All good. So I nip out on an errand, which is handy because I want the heads to settle for a while before any fine tuning.

Anyway get back and start looking at the drums. I lift up the Snare and theres that rattle and a roll sound coming from within it. What? I thought. And sure enough an entire bolt assembly had come away from inside the lug and fell back through the hole into the drum. I nearly cried.

Luckily I have found a replacement on feebay. Its going to take awhile to get to me. I was planning on using the entire kit for a Big Band show tomorrow night. Gutted! I using my 70's 402 that seems to fit in with the Toms. I might take my Super COB along too just in case its better in the room.

OH, NO....! That is the ultimate nightmare for one of these drums. I recently posted just mentioning that I heard/ felt a tension screw 'buck' with a cracking noise on mine- to much tension. I just thought I'd try a higher tuning (probably cos it's got American vintage head on it) they realy darken the tone. Nothing's actually Broken yet though. It's ok that you got a replacement though. I found out that those skyntones are probably the best 'calf like' head. Unfortunately though I thought it might not have been letting the drum project enough in the band situation ( on my other RK 60s 10 lug artist? Model). Don't know what you think?

My first RK I bought from member VTM2000 had the lugs replaced with modern repros....the originals came with the deal....

They look fine, and no chance of failure

Thanks all. I believe the replacement is a 40's which has gently oxidised, one that will sit quietly amongst the others not looking out of place. I love that look, like patina on old cymbals. I'm just hoping the guy is cool and it will show up at my door in a few days time as advertised.

Yeah I can see what your saying, but in for a penny in for a pound, all 20 will have to be fitted or else it will look weird.
