I just remembered another occurrence with similar splitting, that I treated by watering down some heavy duty wood glue (watered enough to really soak into the wood), which I brushed on generously with a small paint brush, then clamped to flatten out the bubble until dry. it worked well.

That`s what I would try first. I`ve done it as well. It worked well.
