I'm also a member on both sites daily checking, "New Posts" and chiming in once in a while... more so on DFO than here just due to volume/topic interest.

I have the most interest in Ludwig related topics as it's a favorite and little interest in other brands. I usually skip over most for sale posts.

I'm not sure I belong to DFO, because I don't visit a DFO website, but I do get an email blast every 2 weeks or so. It is entitled Drum Forum (DrumForum.org), and it appears to be highlights of the latest topics. I hate to say this, but the subjects are often quite lame. And some topics aren't even related to drumming!

The participants seem a lot younger and more "social media" types than us VINTAGE old guys who like nostalgia and history. This DFO email blast seems to have a number of Facebook type members - looking to be "on stage," looking to be noticed.

I do scan all the topics on the DFO blast, and I occasionally read some that sound interesting, but I cannot recall anything that I've actually learned from DFO.

On the other hand, I learn constantly from VDF, and even on subjects that may not be high on my interest level. I check VDF a couple times every day, and I read all the "new" postings, regardless of the subject matter.

As a vintage drum guy and a life-long history buff, VDF has my attention. Comparing the DFO email blast and the VDF, I prefer quality discussions rather than a larger quantity of social-media type blather.

I refuse to participate in any social media. I'm part of "The Resistance." Call me a dinosaur. Long Live the VDF!

I too, belong to both. Love this forum and check every day. I don't look at the postings for sale generally. Haven't been to DFO for a long time. too much "clutter" on that site as im really only interested in the vintage topics

I don't understand the criticism of what/where a certain type of post is found on this forum. Just don't open up a thread if you don't want to read it. Open up the threads that are of interest. That's what I do. There are lots of threads here that I've never read because the subject matter isn't of interest to me. I'm not looking to buy anything so when I see a "for sale" post, I usually just skip it and move on.

Many of the "for sale" posts to which I refer are not indicated as item(s) for sale. Before they are opened, they look very much like the "lookie here at what I have" posts by many members including myself. I've learned that a few people flood our forum with these selling posts that are not in the "for sale " section.

I honestly wasn't aware of that. It's likely that they get posted in what appears to be the busiest section of the forum in order to get more attention. Even though it's less-appropriate to do that, it hasn't ever become an issue to my knowledge.

It also happens that a lot of non-American drum sets get posted in sections that aren't specified for them. Oh well.

Knit picking aside, the important thing is that people are making posts and using the forum for drum-related subject matter. I imagine that Tommy P is cleaning up stuff more than we are even aware of...but he's just one guy and he isn't able to go over everything with a fine-tooth comb.

I enjoy both sites and I don't have a problem with either one. If your friend is looking for perfection, he's not going to find it on the web.

I whole heartedly agree, and if I may add as a personal testimony:

Within my Ford Mustang interests I used two main forums. One concentrates on the concourse level (CMF) for the purists and one for the restorers and modifiers (VMF) as well as the purists. Both have their advantages and it's well worth the time following both. The CMF forum is not as busy as the VMF since few Mustangs have survived in original condition or pocketbooks or knowledge aren't deep enough to get to that level, whereas there are more cars available to restore and more affordable as an entry into the hobby. My activities fit both forums since I had a very low mileage original '68 as well as I restored a relatively low mileage '68. I put both forums to good use.

I consider the drum hobby and collecting to be no different. I spend more time here but have crossed over to DFO as well.
