Nick Mason is a player of impeccable taste. His playing on "Dark Side" is exceptional.Pink Floyd doesn't often call for flashy drumming, but he could let it loose when required."Animals" is the album that introduced me to PF. It's probably their most aggressive album, and he has several shining moments.I recommend the "Live at Pompeii" DVD. It includes "Echoes," lots of other early Floyd such as "One of These Days" (another rocker), and glimpses of "Dark Side" being recorded.

Nick Mason is great!

Dark Side and Animals are back-to-back in my CD changer in my car right now! I've become a big fan of Pink Floyd in the last couple years...even more than I already was.

LOVE Nick Mason.......I have many Pink Floyd albums on wax. "Obscured By Clouds" is special. One of my favorites. I always felt he was not recognized enough for his playing. People that aren't that into Pink Floyd or want to experience more of the band should start with "Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii" on DVD. Nick Mason performance is beyond exceptional......it's mind blowing....very psychedelic player in the most pure sense...Yes Sir

Live at Pompeii is maybe great from a drumming standpoint,but he was using mainly Paiste Sound Creations,and at least 1 sounds SO metallic!

I think it's his Ride..I am surprised someone didn't ask him.."Do you have a Ride with some WARMTH in it?"

I have said for a long time that I don't care much for SC's..

But,with that being said,one of the best Crashes I ever had was a pre New Dimension 18" SC Short Crash (flat bell).Go figure.

Blair what brand drums and cymbals did Nick play on Dark Side Of The Moon? Any idea? I love the sound of his kit on that album.

I did see a pic with A. Zils,but might have been backline....

Look at the Paiste Profiles book to see exactly...don't have mine handy.....

Was the Sound Creation line around in 1972?

I'd have to watch the video again to know for sure, but I'm certain there's at least one Giant Beat in there.

I remember seeing an interview with Nick, where he was asked if he was particularly happy with his playing on an a certain album (I forget which). He hinted at, perhaps he would've done more technically and it seemed to even bug him a little. I wish I knew when/where the interview was from.

Great players know their place and know how to massage the material. Nick is a master of that. I don't think Pink Floyd ever made a bad album, either. I don't have them all, but the early stuff is just great. Love "The Final Cut".

There's a really cool "Rockumentary" about Floyd (maybe there's more than one). It looked to be a year or three old, but has great clips and interviews, spanning their careers.
