Newest Score: Tempo Aqua Blue Sparkle Kit

Loading...

I was leafing through Facebook Marketplace last night and came across this four piece Tempo set in aqua blue glass glitter (actually the floor tom is a Zim-Gar, but it matches nicely), plus a couple of pieces of hardware, a nice Ludwig pedal, and some crappy Japanese cymbals that I will sell. All for $100.

The biggest plus though, is the set came with the exact rack tom holder I need to complete my Drum Mate set. It fits perfectly.

What are my plans? Take them apart, clean everything thoroughly, replace snare wires and some rubber feet, change heads as needed, and maybe put them up for sale. That is, after I've played a gig with them first to hear how they perform.

UPDATE: I took the snare apart and cleaned everything. The shell is luan, of course, but the drum cleaned up nicely and the glass glitter really pops now. I have decided to keep most of the cymbals. The top 14" hi-hat cymbal was broken, so I told the seller to toss it out, but the bottom cymbal is an old Zanchi that I started using as a top hi-hat, and it sounds good. The 20" ride of indeterminate origin, sounds dark and trashy, and might be good for a specialized application. The 16" crash is junk; that I tossed in the trash. I have a feeling that once I get these up to speed, I may keep them. Just what I need, right?

109 views and not one response? I'll take a photo of the drums now and post it. They cleaned up nicely.

Great score DrumBob! I find once I clean up a kit, fix it and after giving it that love, it’s hard to separate with them.

The floor tom looks great and really can’t tell it’s a different make. The lugs look the same too.

Now you just need another tom holder if keeping the one for the Drum Mate kit.

The tom holders look identical, but the Tempo link was just slightly too large to fit the 13" Drum Mate tom bracket. I was really disappointed, because I was sure it would fit, but no. So, I continue to look for the right arm for the Drum Mate set.

Here are the drums, all cleaned up and re-headed. The bass drum reso head will be replaced later this week with an Evans. I repainted the bass drum hoops also, and had a set of Pure Sound wires installed on the snare. It sounds really good now; very sensitive. The whole set sounds good, but the bass drum isn't really dialed in yet the way I want it. The Evans head will fix that.

The aqua glass glitter real sparkles. I like it.

Looks great DrumBob!

Did this kit not come with the clip style tom mount and prefer using a stand or did you just not install it because that is the mount you were talking about to use with the Drum Mate kit?

I see it could use an L-arm for the ride if wanted.

The glass glitter looks great with a flash pic.

I have the arm for the tom. It's already in my hardware bag. I'm using this kit on my next gig later this month. I mounted the rack tom on a floor stand for the sake of the photos.

I ordered a painted logo head-the old Gene Krupa style shield with my initials-from D'Addario, and am expecting it. That head will go on the front of the BD on this set. It's an Evan EQ3 with a port.

The tom arm fits the Tempo set, but not the Drum Mate set, which annoyed me. Oh well, I'm still looking.

Yes, the Tempo set could accept a cymbal L-arm, but I didn't get one with it. I have one in my hardware stash. I'll have to see how it fits. The bracket is very close to the front BD hoop, so I'm not sure I can position my ride in the correct place.

I never realized that the Japanese used real glass glitter wrap. Impressive.
