Newbie needs help with cymbals

Loading...

Ok. Stumbled across this Ludwig drum set and I was needing a little info on the cymbals. I am totally ignorant to drums and cymbals. Got a good deal on it and I've always wanted to learn. So, if anyone could give me some info on them and maybe a ballpark on what you think they're worth, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's some pics

Nice! They are all top of the line professional cymbals. The 20" Avedis Zildjian is from the 60's. I'm pretty sure the 18" is also '60s but the stamp is a bit worn. The company split early in the 20th century when Avedis II came to the US and started making cymbals here with K. Zildjians still being made in Turkey. It gets complicated after that and I don't have all the details committed to memory. The hats are the pick of the litter. They are a pair of K. Zildjian New stamps made in Istanbul from around 1967-1972. After the late '70's the company was brought to the US and added as an additional line of the Avedis Zildjian company. The 20" and 18" A Zildjian's are US made. Prices are a bit softer these days due to the economy and I'm not an expert on pricing anyway, but the hats are much more valuable than either of the rides. A pair of new stamp K. Zildjian hats just sold on ebay for $560. Sixties A Zildjian's are not worth nearly that much at resale, but that doesn't mean they are not excellent cymbals that may sound really great.

Since you're new to this I'm impressed you knew enough to give us clear photos of the stamps without being asked. That was great.

Since the cymbals are nice, I wonder what the drums look like. Post pictures in the appropriate forum here if you have not already done so.

Are both HH cymbals the same stamp, it`s real easy to get two look a likes and be different. The weights are nice to know of both HH cymbals too !! One could be top and one could be bottom or both. Could you show both HH stamps ?

Thanks, BosLover. Oddball and SlingerLynn have been helping me, tell me what to look for and what I need to take pics of for ID. My original post was in the Vintage Drums section. "New Member Here!!!" is the title of the thread. I've some other pics of the set in there. Needless to say, I am very pleased to be learning of "what a score" I found. Seems that I got really, really lucky. Thanks for the info. I guess my next question is; Should I not be using the High Hat cymbals? Seems they are a bit of a rarity.Should I buy me a more "normal" set and use them? Are these Ks a collectors piece?

Sure. I can get a pic of the bottom one. But I have looked and it does have the same stamp and the same autograph. You can also barely make out where it says bottom on it. I guessed that meant it was the bottom one. How would I go about figuring out the weight?

Weight is a true mesurement,...no figureing involed,..they want grams around here and a scale is the best thing to use. You could use the one in the supermarket produce isle or a digital flat-top kind !!

The guy who signed it worked there more than one day and prolly more than one stamp !! Some are sooooo close but different !! If that`s a matched set,..everybody wants them. I would play them or they don`t get what they were made for and will prolly be sad !!
