Hello everyone. I just registered to your forum today. I am 53 years old and just finally started gigging with a local rock band. Got really interested in my Slingerland drums as I was cleaning them up. I think they are Stage Band drums. I bought them used in 1967 and the mounted tom is stamped April 1966. Would love to have a matching (red sparkle) snare and want to know everything I can possibly learn about these drums. They are in near-pristine condition and I think they sound fabulous. Does anyone have info or know where I can get info on this kit. I would like to begin with a 1966 Slingerland catalogue. Where can I get one? Thanks a ton! Craig

Start by clicking on the Slingerland icons on the main page of the forum. There is plenty of info. Nice to see another guy who finally started giggingin his 50's. It's great fun, isn't it, and no aspirations to become the next great Boham, Baker or the like. Just having a good time.
Young Padawan Percussionist... The red sparkling treasure you seek can be found in the largest bay in the world... EBAY!!.... Chewie:
I started drumming last year at 48... I may never make it out of the basement but I'll keep working at it.
I have started with a set of '66 Slingers (in the gallery under basement dwelling Slings) I picked up at a yard sale last year. Put up a picture of your kit in the gallery... these guys have incredible knowledge about drums and are very willing to share it!!Yes Sir
Here's a few red sparkle Slingerland snares on ebay right now:

Thanks for the tip. And yes, it's like being a kid in a candy store. Any idea where I can get a 1966 Slingerland catalogue? Thanks again.

Good luck with your new hobby. I'm sure you will bump into people that would jam with you, especially if you keep mentioning your passion with other musicians. About the red sparkle treasure: been tracking all red Slinger snares on ebay. I have a lot to learn. Don't want to spend $300+ and don't know any details about a "student model" with 6 lugs that I'm inclined to bid on. Sure would like to get my hands on a 1966 Slingerland catalogue. Thanks for your reply (and ebay listings). Have a nice evening.

Rob Cook's book on Slingerland is a good source as well... not to mention the sources you find digging around this site.

Hi,
First congrats on being a drummer! I quit playing at 17. 25 years later I began to play and study in earnest. I'm playing out a lot these days at the age of 52 and it's great. RE the snare. Matching sixties snares are getting pretty expensive. You can fine nice chrome slingerlands on eBay at a more reasonable price and they will sound great once you tweak them up with new heads. Or you might mix and match. Have fun with your drumming!
Matt
In regards to the 66 catalog you seek, there might not be a 66 catalog. As I have learned from DrCJW - he actually knows the original mailing dates for Slingerland Catalogs - that the 66 catalog was produced in 1965
I do not have any catalogs in my archives for 1966, there seams to be holes in different years for most drum company literature..
There is a specific Slingerland section that DrCJW does answer questions in on this forum that is not on the home page and you can get to if you read all of the Slingerland stuff he created..
He is a busy person and some times does not get to questions for awhile, but when he does come in, he usually answers all of the pending questions... As always search the forum first for your questions, because he might have already answered them.

Wow, that catalogue is perfect. Thank you so much. I was about to bid for that catalogue on ebay and it's quite expensive. Got some questions answered, got some new questions, and realized you can't always have all the answers with old stuff. Really appreciate you going to the trouble. Craig
