New Year Pasadena Rose Parade Marching bands

Loading...

Checking the Pasadena Rose Parade Yesterday it really hit me that NONE of the numerous marching bands sported an American made line of drums. Not trying to spur any patriotism or controversy here but at such a traditional American parade not even ONE american drum? I spotted a lot of Pearls, Yamaha and some Tamas. But Ludwigs (the only american company that still produces them) were nowhere to be seen. I remember Ludwig giving paramount importance to the marching and educational field and looking at the current state of it it really makes me realize how much territory has been lost to the asian counterparts. I wish Ludwig could claim some of it someday in the near future. They deserve to gain back their former glory. Im I only dreaming? Hopefully not...Violin

Yamaha has been the marching drum of choice for more than a decade now. I worked in IT for a local school district and that's the only make I ever saw at the high schools. Even Disneyland has used Yamaha for many years. Just seems to be the way things are now.

I also miss the old school traditional sound of the American marchers.

I assume Ludwig still makes marching gear but I have never noticed any as I watched every bowl game I possibly could. All Pearl or Yamaha as mentioned.

Thank you!

Those marching snare drums that sound like ****ing gnats dancing on a Formica table top annoy the hell out of me. Why don't the drummers just lighten the load, and beat on giant wood blocks instead? Yeah... I know. You younger folks think that this is just another gripe from an old guy who trudged through knee high snow UP-HILL both ways to and from school before school buses existed. But, damn....those tap dancing ****ing gnat sounds are annoying no matter what country produces them.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Completely agree! This has always been my gripe! What's the point with having such deep drums when they all sound as mentioned above! When did this "sound" take over?

By the way, the banned word in my post is spelled f-a-r-t-i-n-g.

This great high school band from Japan made another appearance in this year's Rose Parade. They performed Sing Sing Sing again. It should be a a lot of fun to be one of the very few boys in the band among all of those cute girls. I think this video is from at least five years ago. The band is still mostly made up of girls.https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=2018+japanese+marching+band+sing+sing+sing+video&&view=detail&mid=94DE02222CD60941DC7094DE02222CD60941DC70&FORM=VRDGAR

To quote Bill Munny and Snoop, "'Deserve's' got nothin' to do with it!"

It looks like those companies have a better (or more aggressive) game going on as far as cutting endorsement deals with bands that are likely to wind up in high profile parades like the Rose Parade, Macy's and so forth.

I wonder what Ludwig-Musser's problem is.
