chet. thank you very much for posting this vid!, the last time I was there at the Pro drum shop was in 2000, the shop is amazing no doubt!I've enclosed a pic of one of the tee shirts that I bought while on my visit there.

That was extremely well done and quite interesting, and contingent on one's "age", you will know everyone that was interviewed. The only small fly in the ointment was one of the comments made by the last drummer to be interviewed.. ( his name escapes me at the moment as that has a LOT to do with MY age as I'm not sure who he is ) .. anyway... those ARE NOT Buddy's drums. The Slingerland set that he thought were Buddy's are actually a well used backline set that Buddy played on the Tonight Show and at his very last LIVE performance which was filmed by PBS. The Ludwig tom holder is the tip off, and that can plainly be seen whenever that particular set was rented out for Buddy to play. So technically, yes, Buddy "played on them"... but they're not his drums, nor did he ever tour with them. Nice set regardless though!

I've been in the shop countless times and I never noticed. Think the guys at PDS are aware of that? Was the backline supplied by PDS?

I'm hip to the age thing. Have no idea who that drummer is too, but wasn't it great to see Jake Hanna just before? When I interviewed him I couldn't stop laughing. Funny guy. Thanks for the info.

I moved from LA 3 years ago. I lived there for 15 years and Prodrum is one of my favorite places. Most of my drum heads have their logo on the bottom...

Yes, I'm sure the PDS does indeed know as they did in fact supply the backline and specifically this set for the PBS special, which was a fundraiser by the way. It also featured Mel Torme, Maureen McGovern and a few others. It was held in January of 1987, and Buddy passed in April of that year, a mere three months later at the age of 69. He looked GREAT here, and of course played as only Buddy could, especially given that he was three months from his death, although no one knew it at the time. This special featured the Tommy Dorsey big band.. ( who Buddy spent some time with early on in his career! ) .. thus it was a real treat to see Buddy back with them. He seemed to enjoy it too. Also...

The PDS supplied backline for just about all the Tonight Show spots where drums were needed/required. Man, it was all happening then... exactly as it was put in those interviews. Anyway,

Here's a clip from that very PBS special. Take note of the set, and especially the Ludwig tom mount on a Slingerland set. Again, NOT Buddy's drums... but rented backline from the PDS! I was just sayin' that the "young" drummer in the last interview just didn't have a clue that those weren't Buddy's personal drums. Did they steal the "Where to pro's go", from Petco? "Where the pets go"? Just kidding. Stuff like this reminds me of the old (and original) Long Island Drum Center. I love stuff like this. I only wish there was a place with some history, here in AZ, the "Transient State". The only history here is "hot".

Another BR FREAK friend of mine, Paul Testa added "The set was supplied by the Pro Drum Shop. Buddy was stricken later that month and never played again. However he did try playing these drums again while recuperating at a Beverly Hills home of a friend.So he was the last to play them but they were not his drums."

As you say "it was all happening then" WOW! Can't wait to see the PDS VID. Thanks for sharing.
